A valley clouded by haste
Chimeras live in Almar's four essences: Ascua, Rocío, Raíz and Vilano. The illness that makes them sick is called the Turbia, a purple sediment left behind by alchemy done in a hurry. Someone in the mines wanted to draw a lot of lustral water very fast and dumped the leftovers into the old well, and the well feeds the stream that runs through the forest down to the fields. Nobody is evil in this story; the idea behind it is a phrase we repeat a lot at the studio: haste clouds everything.
Win them, don't catch them
Every chimera is won with alchemy or friendship, and that means getting to know it.
Alchemy at the center
Potions, lustral water, essences and a laboratory: everything goes through the alembic.
The world is Almar
The same kingdom, its essences and its places, a century before the twins' adventure.
Fights that feel like an event
Flashy and short: the game is made for 5 to 15 minute sessions on your phone.
Win them over, with no luck or percentages
Here you don't throw anything at a creature and hope luck is on your side. Every chimera is won over in one of six ways, and all of them are alchemy or friendship. If something doesn't work, the game gives you a hint about what's missing.
Bond
You watch it, find out what it likes and bring it over several visits until it trusts you.
Purification
If it's sick with the Turbia, you calm it in the arena and give it lustral water with an ingredient of its essence.
Eggs
You find a nest and warm it with ingredients of its essence; the hatchling is born already by your side.
Transmutation
In the laboratory, the essence of two of your chimeras makes a new variant, and both stay with you.
Pact
The chimera asks for your help (recovering something, healing its nest) and joins you when you deliver.
Negotiation
You talk with it and choose what to say or give depending on its nature.
Fighting without hurting
When you touch a sick chimera, the world steps aside and you enter an arena. The fight is in real time: you move your chimera, attack, use its abilities and switch to another one on your team when needed.
- No blood and no permanent defeats: chimeras get tired and give up.
- Calm them to heal them: fighting a sick chimera is how you calm it so you can cure it.
- Friendly duels: against other alchemists, and when you win the game says so: good duel, nobody gets hurt.
- For everyone, in the arena too.
68 chimeras, each with its own habits
All 68 have their own entry, their own habit and their own place in the valley: what they eat, where they sleep, what time they come out. Getting to know them is how you win them over. Here are four you already saw in the arena.
RocíoAlambiquín
Tidy and demanding: it only trusts whoever brings it clean water without shaking it.
RaízResinel
Slow and affectionate: it sticks to whoever it likes.
AscuaRescoldo
Sleepy and always cold: never pour water on it.
AscuaResollo
Shy and homely: it trusts whoever speaks to it softly, and water scares it.
A journey, and a valley to stay in
The journey goes from the Fields of Brezo to the Amber Forest, the Salt Mines, the mountains where the water is born and the capital of the kingdom: ten places. Each one opens with a potion, as in El Aprendiz de Almar. In the end you keep a workshop of your own in Brezo, and the valley stays alive after the story.
- The workshop: jobs from the valley's people, a display case with twelve niches for your favorite chimeras and corners to decorate with what you earn by playing.
- The night: if you sleep in your bed, night falls and eight chimeras come out that you'd never see by day. No real-time clock: night comes when you want it to.
- The recipe book: potions that come out cloudy if you use them right away and clear if you let them rest.
- The festivals: four valley festivals, one per place, with no scores or competition.
- The field notebook: you write down one habit of each chimera when you see it doing its thing.
In development
It's our fifth game. It started in late September as an idea, and today it's already playable from start to finish in the studio, with 68 chimeras, ten places and a complete story.
- The art is placeholder: it's there so we can play and measure the game. The final art and design of the chimeras, the alchemist and the places are in development at the studio.
- Tested on every change: more than 1,200 automated tests and an automated tester that plays it on a real phone; Ulises Cabrera, who handles testing, will be one of the first to play it from start to finish.
- With care: we review every chimera so it only looks like itself, and every mechanic so we don't step on what belongs to others. Before release, our lawyer will review all of it.
- Your way: the game's options include «Texto grande» (large text), and you can reduce flashes and turn vibration off.
- Free to play: how it will sustain itself is something we're still reviewing calmly, and we'll tell you in the devlog before it arrives.
- Release: no date yet. First on Google Play, only in Mexico, and later in the rest of Latin America. Before that come the legal review, the final art and a closed test.
Want to know when it's out?
We tell the whole story in Quimeralia, nuestro quinto juego (Spanish) and we'll announce it in the studio devlog. If you're press, the Quimeralia press kit is already available.
Rail Critters
Our first game: a three-lane arcade runner in pixel art. You can try its mini version right now, in your browser.
