Description

El Aprendiz de Almar is a pixel art action RPG where alchemy is the magic: brew potions, fight alongside your allies and save your twin from the stone.

El Aprendiz de Almar is the third game from Lopand Game Studio, in development for Android. Enna and Tiago are twins and alchemist's apprentices in Brezo, a village in the kingdom of Almar. A curse is turning people to stone, and in the prologue it takes one of them. The other, the one you choose, sets out to find their master, heal the kingdom and bring their twin back.

It is a pixel art action RPG where alchemy is the magic: you gather ingredients, brew potions at the still (grind, mix in order, mind the fire) and fight in real time with your staff, a belt of four flasks and up to two allies. Potions also open up the world: fire burns brambles, ice crosses water and acid breaks salt.

History

El Aprendiz de Almar came after Rail Critters and Lumbre, la última luz, from one idea: that a single system, alchemy, would be the magic, the medicine and the key to the world. Four pillars guide every decision: alchemy is the heart, a world that remembers what you do, being fair to those who don't pay, and a warm adventure written in Mexican Spanish from the very start.

The art and design are by Romina López, with a 32-color palette, and the sound effects and music are made in the studio. The game is built step by step, with automated tests on every change, and is released in arcs: Arc I, the first release, brings three chapters, about 15 hours of story and 60 to 80 in total.

Features

  • Alchemy as magic: four essences (Ascua, Rocío, Raíz and Vilano) and twelve potions in Arc I, brewed at a touch-based still.
  • Real-time combat with a staff, four flasks to drink or throw and up to two allies.
  • Choose Enna or Tiago; the other twin turns to stone in the prologue.
  • Eight story allies, all free, and more than 30 named characters in Arc I.
  • A world that remembers: day and night with their lights, weather, nine music tracks and people who talk about what you did.
  • Alchemy grows with you: an alchemy level up to 10 and a workshop with a mortar, bellows and a double flask.
  • The complete Arc I: three chapters, 60 quests, the Hunters' Guild and two Rifts.
  • Free to play: the full story is free, with no energy or paywalls, and a gacha with visible pity (planned).
  • Art and design by Romina López; sound effects and music made in the studio.
